Description

This is a road bridge built in the late 18th century over the Caldon Canal. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features an elliptical arch. There is a raised string at carriageway level, and the parapet is slightly cambered over the span. The bridge has piers at both ends with rounded copings. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Brindley and Henshaw.
