Description

This is an accommodation bridge built in the late 18th century over the Caldon Canal. It is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone and features an elliptical arch. There is a raised string at the level of the carriageway, and the parapet is cambered over the span with piers at either end, topped with rounded copings. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Brindley and Henshaw.
