Description
No. 45 Mardol is a house that has been converted into a shop. It features an early 19th-century facade that covers a 17th-century building. The exterior is rendered over brick with a timber-framed core and has a plain tiled roof. The building is three storeys high, with the main elevation facing Mardol displaying a two-window range. An early 20th-century shop front has been inserted, which includes a central recessed doorway and a continuous fascia supported by console brackets. The upper windows are tripartite sashes, although the glazing bars have been removed from the first floor. The building has angle quoins and plain parapet eaves. The return elevation to Smithfield shows two phases of construction. Inside, there are timber-framed partition walls and a roof structure that includes king post and collar trusses, with at least part of the external wall structure still intact.
