46 and 47 Mardol

46 and 47 Mardol is a pair of shops that were likely originally built as a house in the early 18th century, possibly refronting an earlier structure. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a plain-tiled roof. The ground floor has two later 20th-century shop fronts and an archway leading to a passage on the right.

The upper windows are two-pane sashes, with twelve panes in the second storey, and have flat-arched stuccoed heads with keystones. There are two upper windows that are blind and painted. The building has flush string courses at the top and bottom of the windows on each storey, and angle quoins. Above the second storey windows, recessed panels create a rhythm that complements the moulded cornice of the eaves parapet. The steeply pitched roof and rendered gable ends behind the parapet suggest that there may be a timber-framed core within the structure.
