Description
28 and 29 Mardol is a pair of shops that were likely originally built as dwellings in the early 18th century. The buildings are constructed of painted brick and feature a steeply pitched plain tiled roof. They rise three storeys with an attic and have a two-window range.
In the late 20th century, shop fronts were added, which included parts of an earlier fascia and heavy moulded console brackets at each end. The first-floor windows are early 20th-century three-light oriels, with pedimented heads above the central light and leaded upper panes. These windows are connected by a continuous cornice.
On the second storey, there are four flush-framed sash windows that were originally 12-paned with flat-arched heads, although the glazing bars have been removed from the lower sash. The eaves cornice is plain and moulded, supporting an overhanging roof with three pedimented dormer windows and coped gables.
