Description

No. 20 Bull Ring is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the late 18th century and features painted brickwork with a slate roof at the front and 20th-century plain tiles at the rear. The building is three storeys high and has a four-window range, with 6/6 sash windows under gauged brick flat arches and similar 3/3 sashes above. The eaves are bracketed.

The early 20th-century shopfront includes a half-glazed door set in a central recess, while there is a blocked doorway to the right, also in a recess, which has a concrete lintel and a band above it. At the rear, there is a rubble wing that has an 18th-century brick gable end featuring a storey band at the second floor level. A 20th-century stack has been added, along with a 20th-century light and an 18th-century blocked opening on the right, which is topped by two 18th-century gables under a 20th-century plain tile roof. The storey band continues along the left side of the wing, with a second storey band visible at the first floor level on the gable and left side.

A shorter 18th-century wing has 20th-century lights on the first and second floors, also under brick flat arches, and a 20th-century plain tile roof. The ground floor features a 20th-century blocked opening beneath a gauged brick semi-circular arch, with an oak lintel above, and there is a lean-to structure to the right.
