Description
The Compasses Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn. It has origins from the 20th century, but its core dates back to the 18th century and earlier. The building is constructed of brick and stucco, topped with a slate roof featuring a brick end stack. It stands two stories tall with a cellar and has a three-window range. The windows are 3/6 sashes set in quoined stucco cases, complete with hood mouldings. The central projecting bay features 20th-century double doors with a wooden portcullis, framed by a stone surround and a painted arch with a hood moulding above. The flanking windows are 1/1, 2/4, and 1/1 sashes, all in similar cases, with stucco quoins. Inside, there is a lot of imitation timber-frame work, but the rear bar retains large original posts and ceiling beams.
