Description

This building, occupied by the National Westminster Bank, is a bank constructed around 1924. It features a galleted rubble plinth and a timber-frame structure topped with a plain tile roof that has three matching gables at both the front and rear. The building is three stories high and has a three-window range. The shallow leaded light oriel windows are supported by enriched consoles and are set beneath a chamfered bressummer, which rests on main joists also supported by enriched consoles. The close studding is visible, and above it, there is box framing with plain quarter bracing and similar fenestration, including small lights. The gables are adorned with cusped and pierced lattice bracing beneath ornamental barge boards.

Access is provided by steps leading to panelled doors within moulded cases, flanking a central canted bay that features leaded lights and casements. The close studding is complemented by foliage-decorated panels positioned between enriched console brackets that support a moulded bressummer. The right gable displays quarter-braced box framing and lead rainwater goods, which are dated 1924. The rear of the building has plain framing with two leaded lights on the first floor. Additionally, there is a two-storey wing with a mansard roof located at the rear left, constructed in brick, along with a single-storey flat-roofed wing that has leaded lights set between painted brick piers.
