Description
Rickard's Warehouse in Wood's Yard is a malthouse that has been converted into a warehouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a plain tile roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a three-window range with fixed lights that include central mullions and glazing bars, all set in round-headed cases beneath brick segmental arches. There is a blocked opening to the right and, at the far right, a plank door in a beaded case. Above this, there are three fixed lights with central mullions.
The entrances include double plank doors in a chamfered frame on the left, flanked by openings with central wood mullions and iron bars, all under segmental arches. To the right, there are smaller double doors in an oak frame within an altered opening, along with another opening featuring a central mullion and iron bars beneath a segmental arch. The right side of the building has a blocked opening at ground floor and a blocked doorway at the first floor. The left side features stone-faced steps leading to a late 19th-century plank door at the first floor, which is sheltered by a late 19th-century canopy.
The rear of the building is made of brick on a rubble plinth and has three blocked openings under brick segmental arches, with one opening being plastered in an oak frame. Inside, the roof has a cruck-derived construction with open-mortice ridge joints and a ridge board, along with massive trenched purlins and curved wind braces. The first floor has plastered walls that are limewashed, and there is an original door under a hoist. The building is included for its group value.
