Description
No. 140 Corve Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwellings. It dates from the late 18th century and features painted brickwork with a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks at each end. The building has three storeys and a two-window range, with 20th-century 8/8 sash windows in moulded cases beneath gauged brick flat arches, and 4/4 sashes above. There are moulded wood corbels at the eaves.
The late 19th-century shopfront includes double doors leading to a passage at the rear, which is sheltered by a wooden hood with modillions. At the rear, there is a casement window set under a segmental arch above the passage, and the eaves are decorated with brick modillions.
There is a wing at the rear that is 19th-century and features a timber-framed gable. Additionally, there is another 19th-century two-storey wing that was formerly two cottages. This wing contains two late 19th-century sash windows and a 19th-century two-light casement with glazing bars, along with two half-glazed panelled doors from the same period. To the left, there is a late 19th-century plain sash window, and to the right, a 19th-century 8/8 sash window. The extreme right has a 20th-century half-glazed panelled door under a brick segmental arch, with a 20th-century casement window above it. The left side of the building features a panel of early 19th-century timber framing.
