Description
This building, located to the rear of No. 139A Corve Street in Ludlow, is a Grade II listed structure known as The Old Seed Warehouse. It consists of cottages, workshops, and a malthouse, dating from the early to mid 19th century, with an earlier core. The building is constructed of brick and features a variety of roof pitches covered with plain tiles and corrugated asbestos.
The two-storey cottage has a two-light casement window above an 8/8 sash window, both set under segmental arches. To the left, there is a narrow door with a moulded architrave in an altered opening beneath a timber lintel. The three-storey range includes various windows and casements, including a leaded light with old glass on the first floor to the right, and a stepped protruding brick panel. There are three doors and lights from the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring central oak mullions and pegged frames, all under shallow segmental arches, with large beam ends visible.
Another three-storey range has various 20th-century lights and casements in earlier oak frames, with those on the ground floor set under segmental arches. This section also displays large beam ends and includes a 19th-century plank door. To the left, there is a malting kiln with draught-slits beneath a storey band and blind arcading. The left side of the building features 20th-century doors, a returned storey band, and blind arcading.
Inside, the structure is largely intact, showcasing curved collar trusses in the altered roof and retaining an iron drying floor. The middle range exhibits some timber-framing. The rear of the building is made of brick with some rubble, featuring blocked openings, various lights, exposed large beam ends, and blind arcading associated with the kiln.
