Description
No. 9 Market Hill is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century facade. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and has a rendered front featuring a plinth, a storey band, a moulded eaves cornice, and a coped parapet. The roof is tiled and dates from the 20th century, with a brick stack at one end. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic. The front has a three-window range of 19th-century cross casements, which are complemented by decorative cast-iron balconies on the first floor. The central entrance features early 19th-century panelled and glazed doors, flanked by a paned shop front. There are 19th-century horned sash windows on either side, and a 20th-century door with a 19th-century overlight to the far right. The roof includes three gabled dormers. To the rear, there is a 19th-century two-storey brick extension and a 20th-century brick lean-to. The interior of the ground floor has been opened out, likely in the early 19th century.
