Description
No. 130 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with accommodation above. It was likely built in the 1740s, following the fire in Crediton in 1743. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and has a slate roof with a stack featuring a corbelled brick shaft.
The exterior is three storeys high with an asymmetrical two-bay front. It has deep eaves and a moulded eaves cornice that includes a decorative variation of lozenge patterns. On the ground floor, there are a pair of plank doors leading to the cartway on the right, and a 20th-century timber panelled door on the left. The centre features a late 1930s shop front with a fascia and projecting canted small-pane windows flanking a central door, which has small panes above a low panel.
On the first floor, there are two 18th-century flush-frame 12-pane sash windows with flat brick arches, and on the second floor, there are two 18th-century flush-frame 3/3-pane sash windows. The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
