Description
No. 14 High Street is a shop with accommodation above, likely built in the mid to late 18th century, with a 20th-century shop front. The building is constructed of pebbledashed Flemish bond brick and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with an asymmetrical three-bay front. The roof features deep eaves supported by moulded brackets, and there are narrow concrete pilasters on the left and right sides. The right side has a 20th-century timber glazed front door, while the shop front includes a plain fascia and plate glass windows set on a modern brick base, with the windows angled towards a central timber door that has a large plate glass pane. On the first floor, there are two widely spaced 16-pane sash windows from the late 18th or early 19th century, each with plain proud architraves, and two similar windows on the second floor. The left side of the building is also made of Flemish bond brick and retains a former shop name, 'BARENS', painted on the side. The ground floor has been gutted for the shop, but features of interest may still be present upstairs.
