Description
Beckbury Church of England Primary School is a former national school that was converted into a primary school. It was built in 1852 by J. V. Hand of Beckbury, as indicated by the datestone on the central gable, and opened in September 1853. The building is constructed of red brick with a plinth, featuring a yellow brick floor band and eaves cornice that rises along the slope of the central gable. The roof is covered with fishscale tiles, separated by plain tiled bands, and has two yellow brick stacks at the gable ends and one at the ridge of the central gable.
The schoolmaster's house is located below, with classrooms for girls and boys above, which have been converted into a single space. Access to the upper classrooms is provided by a separate covered staircase at the side. The building is two storeys high with a central gable above the eaves and consists of six bays. The ground floor has irregular fenestration, with all windows being small-paned cross casements that feature yellow brick sills and yellow brick labels with stops. The entrance to the loft includes a contemporary doorway with an overlight set under a Tudor arch, topped with a yellow brick hoodmould that has label stops above. There are 20th-century weatherboarded extensions to the loft and to the right of the gable ends.
