Description
Beckbury Hall is a manor house dating from the 16th or early 17th century, which was re-modelled in the early 18th century and has late 19th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick with planted timber framing on the east front and features plain tiled roofs. The garden front is 2½ storeys high with three gabled bays and imitation stone floor bands. There are two projecting two-storeyed late 19th-century canted bays on the left and right gables. The first floor above the central entrance has a glazing bar sash window, while the central attic gable features an 18th-century lunette. The left and right gables also have glazing bar sashes, and all windows, including the 19th-century leaded casements on the ground floor beside the projecting bays, have imitation stone lintels and raised keystones. The ends of the roof have ramped coping with ball finials, and there are brick ridge stacks on either side of the central gable and to the left of the left-hand gable. A 20th-century verandah is located over the entrance, and there are late 19th-century extensions to the left and right with a Sun Fire Insurance plate. The planted timbering on the east front likely conceals a 16th or early 17th-century timber-framed house of hall type with projecting cross wings. Inside, there is a fine Caroline staircase with heavy turned balusters and contemporary decorative oak panelling in the hall and the left-hand ground floor front room.
