Description
Cheriton Cottage is a building that originally consisted of two cottages but has been converted into one house. It dates back to the 17th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century, with later additions and alterations. The exterior features painted brick cladding, a masking timber frame, and sandstone blocks incorporated into the lower part of the wall on the right-hand end. The roof is plain tiled.
The building is two storeys high and has irregular window placements, with 19th-century casements: three on the first floor and two on the ground floor. There is a central entrance that has a 20th-century doorway and porch, with a chimney stack to the left behind the ridge and an end stack to the right. Inside, the cottage retains a massive fireplace and chimney stack to the left of the entrance, with most of the framing intact. There are also two 19th-century dog-leg staircases without landings at each end. The rear of the building has 20th-century extensions.
