Description
Cranford House School is a house that has been converted into a school, built around 1840. It features red brick in Flemish bond and a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a two-panel door with an overlight and side lights, set within a Bath stone porch supported by thin Doric pilasters. On either side of the entrance are 12-pane unhorned sash windows, framed with plain Bath stone surrounds that have segmental heads and keystones. There is a flat brick band running between the ground and first floors, and on the first floor, there are three more 12-pane unhorned sash windows with similar Bath stone surrounds and keystones. The eaves feature a projecting brick course and are covered with 20th-century painted boarding. The attic has three half-circular dormers. Inside, most rooms contain mid-19th century fireplaces, and the hall has a parquet floor with an inlaid wood border, along with a dog-leg staircase.
