Description

The Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade II listed building located in Moulsford, dating from around 1846 and designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is built on old foundations and features a flint and stone base with stone dressings, topped with an old plain-tile roof. To the left, there is a wooden bell tower with a splay-footed shingled roof. The church is designed in the Early English style and consists of a 3-bay nave, a north aisle, and a chancel, with a west tower.

The entrance includes a central open timber-framed porch leading to a 2-centred arched doorway, which is adorned with a hood mould. The door is made of planks and has wrought iron hinges. To the left of the doorway are paired lancet windows, while to the right of the centre are a paired trefoil-topped lancet and another trefoil-topped lancet. The east end features a 3-light window with reticulated tracery, and there are single and paired lancets throughout the north aisle.

Inside, the nave has an arch-braced roof, while the chancel is topped with a barrel-vault roof. The chancel contains 19th-century stained glass, and there is a piscina to the right of the chancel. The interior also boasts a richly carved pulpit, lectern, and choir stalls, along with a wooden arcaded communion rail. The north aisle features three segmental pointed arches, corbelled to the aisle side, and there is an octagonal 19th-century font with carved quatrefoils on each side. The east end displays a good series of wall monuments dating from around 1694.
