Description
Hepworth Primary School is a primary school built in 1852, with an enlargement in 1872. It is a single-storey building constructed of kidney flint with white brick rusticated quoins and dressings. The roof features bands of fishscale slates alternating with plain bands and has high copings on the gables supported by moulded corbels. On the west side, there are two small projecting wings that contain entrance lobbies. The school has two white brick chimney stacks with corbelled heads on the shafts. The main schoolroom range includes cross windows on the west side and a large four-light window with a central transom and a brick hood-mould over in each gable, along with a small circular slatted window above. Attached to the east wall of the building is a two-storey range that extends southwards, which has an internal chimney stack and windows featuring cast-iron diamond-paned casements. This range was originally built as a school house but is now part of the school premises.
