Description

No. 6 Castle Street is a shop and dwelling that dates from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a slate mansard roof with a brick end stack. It stands three storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range, showcasing 6/6 sash windows with cambered heads set within moulded stone architraves. Above these, there are similar windows with moulded sills and a moulded stone eaves cornice. The roof includes two 20th-century box dormers, one with three lights and the other with six lights.

On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century shopfront with a glazed door that is recessed to the left. This is flanked by moulded stone pilasters with enriched brackets that support a deep moulded wood cornice, and there are two central cast-iron pillars. At the rear, there is a 17th-century wing that overlooks Quality Square. This section is also made of brick and has a plain tile roof, standing three storeys high with a three-window range. The first floor features early 19th-century 6/6 sashes in moulded cases, while the second floor has similar windows, including one early 18th-century window with broad glazing bars. Additionally, there are late 19th-century outshuts that include a part-glazed door in a chamfered case.
