Description

No. 7 Church Street is a shop and dwelling built in the early 17th century. The building is constructed of brick, with roughcast over a timber frame, and features a slate roof on the front pitch and plain tiles on the rear. It has two storeys and a three-window range, with 19th-century, two-light windows that have inward-opening casements. The early 20th-century shopfront includes central two-leaf, part-glazed stable doors with a plain casement overlight, flanked by plate glass windows that have central glazing bars. The shopfront also features chamfered cases and fluted consoles. To the right, there is a late 19th-century six-panel door in a plain case, which includes a stud, and a chamfered bracket under a deep jetty. The right side of the building shows early 19th-century brickwork on the first floor, and there is a passageway leading to the Rose and Crown Inn, which has 18th and 19th-century brickwork with exposed main frame posts. The rear elevation displays mutilated timber-framing with 18th-century brick infill. On the first floor, there is an 18th-century three-light window with a central metal casement, set in an opening that shows the chamfers and mortices of the original mullions. The ground floor has a 19th-century two-light casement. Inside, large ceiling beams are exposed on the ground floor.
