Description

This building is a barn and granary located about 15 yards south-west of Wootton. It mainly dates from the late 18th century, with some remodelling from the mid-19th century and an attached range that may date from the late 17th century. The structure is primarily made of brick, with some rubble, and the eastern range is timber-framed with brick infill and corrugated iron roofs.

The 18th-century barn has four bays aligned north to south, and the granary, which is attached to the north on the same axis, also features four bays and extends in two bays towards Wootton. The 17th-century range, centrally attached to the east, consists of four short bays. The building has two levels.

On the west elevation, there are four bays plus four bays; a full-height partially blocked entry is located to the right of the center, with two segmentally headed windows to the right at a low level and one to the left. There is a segmentally headed entrance with a two-leaved ledged door to the left of center, set in the rubble lower part of the longer granary side, and a first-floor hatch to the right of the brick upper level of this section.

Inside, the 17th-century range features queen struts from ties to collars, while the granary has interrupted tie-beam trusses with swept braces. The southern part of the barn includes central struts from ties to collars with diagonal struts to the principals. This building is part of a very interesting farm complex.
