Description
Gable Ends is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one house. They likely date from the 17th century, with the roof raised in the early 19th century. The structure features a timber frame with brick and plaster infill panels, a slate roof, and a stone chimney located at the southeast corner, which has a detached 20th-century brick shaft positioned to the right of a stone slated scullery lean-to. The building is arranged in three bays and is two storeys high.
On the north elevation, there are four windows that are evenly spaced, featuring early 19th-century wrought iron 2-light casements on the first floor and a 3-light casement from the 18th century in the centre bay on the ground floor, which has plank weatherings above it. There are two porches with stone slate roofs: the left porch is a late 20th-century lean-to with a contemporary ledged door, while the right porch is gabled, constructed with re-used 17th-century timbers, and has a late 19th-century ledged door. The frame consists of three panels high up to the former eaves level, and the end truss of the former roof is exposed at the east gable end, featuring three struts to the collar and V-struts to the apex, with thin scantling.
