Description

Rose Cottage is likely a 17th-century house, situated in Wellington. It was built in two phases, aligned north/south. The construction includes a rubble plinth, a timber frame with plaster infill panels, a plain tiled roof, a brick stack to the south, and an external stone end stack with a detached brick shaft at the north end. The property is one storey and has an attic. The west elevation features early 20th-century casement windows. Two oriel windows, each of five lights, are situated in the centre and to the left of the ground floor, with the central window supported by a moulded beam, possibly dating from the 17th century. A blocked doorway with a segmental head sits between the oriels. There are two raking-top, two-light dormers in the centre and right bays of the attic. The timber frame extends from the low rubble plinth to the wall-plate, with struts at the tops of the posts and at bay divisions. The left side of the house has an additional strut and slightly narrower panelling. A mid-20th century porch with a plain tiled roof extends from the south gable.
