Description
Bridge Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a dwelling, that likely dates from the 17th century and was partly restored around 1980. The building features a timber frame with a sandstone rubble plinth and west gable, a brick east gable, and a slate roof that was formerly thatched. There are brick stacks at the east end and another to the left of center. The farmhouse is one storey and attic high, with three and a half bays aligned east to west, and the eastern bay is over a cellar.
On the south elevation, there are mid-20th century two-light casement windows, with two located to the right of a long lean-to entrance porch, one to the left, and one in each of the three gabled dormers. The entrance porch itself has three mid-20th century two-light casements. The frame of the building has three panels high from the plinth to the wall-plate.
Inside, the principal ground floor room to the east features a run-out stop-chamfered beam. There are restored dog-leg stairs with column-on-vase balusters and a moulded handrail, which occupy half a bay between the east bay and the second full bay from the east. The ceiling of the second bay from the west has a hop pocket. The first-floor rooms on either side of the landing have ledged doors that date to the late 17th or early 18th century. The gable trusses include V-struts above collars supported by three queen struts, and the first truss from the west end has principals that overlap at the apex.
