Description

Gadsby's of Southwell, also known as Gossips Coffee House, consists of two houses that have been converted into a cakeshop and coffee house. The buildings date from the late 17th century and early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. They are constructed of brick, with the fronts painted and slate roofs, the roof on the right being steeply pitched.

The right side, No. 24, features a gable end facing the street with remnants of coping. It has a renewed 19th-century canted oriel bay window with glazing bar casements. Above this bay window is a central 19th-century sash window with a segmental head. The full-width shopfront, dating from the late 19th century, is pilastered with a corniced fascia and has a central door flanked by single windows. At the rear, there is an external gable stack and a single glazing bar sash window on both the first and second floors.

To the left, No. 26 has an early 19th-century front with cogged eaves, a central glazing bar sash window, and a smaller sash window above, both featuring keystoned lintels. The central mid-19th-century shop window has a cornice and is flanked on the right by a blocked door and on the left by a round-headed passage opening. The interiors were refitted in the late 20th century.
