Description

This is a house, dating around 1830, that has been converted into two shops, located on King Street in Southwell. It was altered in the mid-19th century and again in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with the front colourwashed, and has a slate roof. It has a rendered plinth, rebated eaves, and a single ridge stack. The two-storey facade has a three-window arrangement. The front features three 19th-century sash windows. On the left side is a mid-19th century shopfront constructed from pilastered wood, with a central glazed door flanked by windows, each with three round-headed lights. The right side has a mid-20th century shopfront designed to replicate the earlier style. A rainwater head dated 1876 is also present. The building possesses group value from the contribution it makes to the streetscape.
