Description

The Admiral Rodney Hotel is a public house located on King Street in Southwell. It was built in the early 18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid and late 19th century, as well as in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with a renewed stucco front and features steep pitched roofs covered in slate and pantiles.

The front façade includes a plinth, stucco quoins, a frieze displaying the hotel's name in relief, deep moulded eaves, and a parapet. The front windows are plain sashes, and the building is two storeys high with attics, featuring a four-window range in an L-plan layout. The front has four sashes, and above them are two low-pitched gabled dormers with 20th-century glazing. To the left, there is a shouldered recess with a 20th-century doorway that has replaced the original carriage entrance. To the right of this recess are three more sashes. The right gable features a 20th-century attic casement.

At the rear, there is a single-storey 20th-century lean-to addition on the right, which has mullioned leaded windows. Above this addition are two Yorkshire sashes, and to the right, there is a 20th-century casement. Above again, there is a large 20th-century flat-roofed dormer.
