Description

Mrs. Bee's Card and Toy Shop and the Taj Mahal Restaurant, located at Nos. 15 and 15A on King Street in Southwell, is a house and attached stable range that has been converted into shops and a restaurant. It dates from the mid-18th century but has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco south gable and features both slate and pantile roofs.

The front facade displays first and second floor bands, brick modillion eaves, coped gables, and two gable stacks. It is three storeys high and has a three-window range. The front includes three glazing bar sash windows with rubbed brick heads, and above them are three similar windows. To the left, there are two late 19th-century wooden shopfronts with corniced fascias supported by brackets, with the right shopfront being reglazed in the late 20th century. To the right of the shopfronts, there is an elliptical arched carriage opening.

At the rear, there are two wings that are two and three storeys high, both featuring coped gables and a gable stack. The south side of the building has a single glazing bar sash window on each floor, with the larger lower windows having segmental heads. The former stable range, which is two storeys high, has coped gables and a colourwashed ground floor. It includes two 20th-century casement windows, a 20th-century door with a segmental head to the right, and a 20th-century shop window to the left.
