Description
41 and 42 Steep Hill are two houses that have been converted into a shop. They date from the late 18th century and mid 19th century, and may include parts of an earlier building. The structure is made of brick, featuring a rendered plinth and stone dressings, topped with gabled and hipped roofs covered in artificial slate. The buildings stand three storeys tall and have two bays. Each house has a full-width wooden shopfront with pilasters; the shopfront on the left is from the late 19th century, while the one on the right is a replica. Both shopfronts include a fascia cornice and a single window with wooden mullions and transoms. The left shopfront features a half-glazed round-headed door with an overlight. Above this, there is a 19th-century glazing bar sash and an 18th-century glazing bar sash, with the left sash having a rubbed brick head. To the left of these, there is another 19th-century glazing bar sash, also with a rubbed brick head. In the gable on the right, there is a smaller 18th-century glazing bar sash. The interior has not been inspected.
