Description
No. 33 on Steep Hill is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates back to the 16th century, was refronted in the 18th century, and has undergone alterations in the 19th century. The building features a close-studded north wall, a colourwashed brick front, and a pantile roof. It has a stone plinth and a brick band at the first floor level. The structure is two storeys high, plus attics, and consists of a single bay.
The mid-19th century shopfront spans the full width of the building and includes pilasters, a cornice, and a central window with wooden mullions, flanked by smaller windows. To the left of the shopfront is a beaded panelled half-glazed door with an inscribed overlight. Above this is a central bowed oriel window from the early 19th century, and above that is a central raking dormer featuring a two-light sliding sash window.
Inside, there is a close-studded wall and spine beams, along with a mid-19th century winder stair.
