Description
The Spinning Wheel is a house that has been converted into a café. It dates back to the 16th century and incorporates parts of a medieval building, with alterations made in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior features close studded timber framing, a stone rear wall, and a brick plinth, topped by a steeply pitched pantile roof. The first floor jetties out over the ground floor. The building has two storeys plus attics and consists of two bays.
The entrance is marked by an off-centre beaded doorcase with an overlight, which is flanked on the left by three oriel windows with glazing bars and cornices, the central window being smaller. To the right, there is a similar window with small flanking lights. All windows are supported by iron brackets. Above the ground floor, there are two 2-light sliding sash windows, with the one on the right being smaller. Further up, there are two dormers with segmental heads, one featuring a glazing bar sash and the other a sliding sash.
Inside, the café retains much of the original timber structure.
