Description
No. 40 Steep Hill is a house that has been converted into a café and residence. It dates from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of gault brick, featuring a rendered ground floor, stone dressings, and a pantile roof. There is a second-floor sill band and the structure has three storeys with a single bay. The wooden shopfront, which dates from the late 19th century, includes pilasters and a cornice. To the left of the shopfront is a half-glazed fielded panelled door with an overlight. To the right, there are a pair of large glazing bar sashes with a wooden mullion. Above these, there is a large central glazing bar sash with a splayed lintel and round-headed louvred shutters. Above that, there is a smaller margin light sash, also with a splayed lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
