GV II

House, now house and shop, incorporating in its north wall part of the City wall and the south gate of the upper part of the Roman Colonia. Early C18, with C19 and C20 alterations. Brick with stone dressings and slate roof with 2 gable stacks. Moulded eaves cornice. 3 storeys, 2 bays. To right, a pilastered doorcase with foliated consoles, dentilled open pediment, and C19 half-glazed door with fanlight. To left, an early C19 shop window with pilasters and cornice, and below it, a cellar light. Above, 2 single-light Venetian windows and above again, a C20 glazing bar casement flanked by single dummy windows. INTERIOR has a C18 winder stair, partially renewed, and C20 shopfittings in matching style. (Buildings of England : Lincolnshire: Pevsner N: Lincolnshire: London: 1989-: 440 & 518).
