Description

39 and 41 Appleton Gate are two houses that now function as a house and shop. They date from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century and early and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature slate and pantile roofs with two gable stacks. There is an incomplete first-floor band, a second-floor band, plain eaves on the left side, and dentillated eaves on the right side. The buildings are three storeys high and have a mix of single and double windows.

On the left side, there is a large segment-headed triple sash window, with a blocked window to its left. To the right, there are two segment-headed plain sash windows. Above, on the left, is a central 12-pane sash window, and to the right, there are two segment-headed six-pane sashes. The ground floor features an early 20th-century shopfront with a fascia. To the right, there is a recessed glazed door with a small single-pane window to its right and three larger single-pane windows to its left, all of which have toplights. On either side of the shopfront, there are round-headed passage entrances with painted brickwork.
