Description
29 and 31 Appleton Gate are two houses that have been converted into houses and shops. They were built in the mid-18th century and raised in the early 19th century, with further alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a concrete pantile roof with two gable stacks. Notable architectural details include a second floor band and dentillated eaves. The structures are two storeys tall with attics and have a five-window range with segment-headed openings. The central window is blank, flanked on the left by a larger two-light casement and a blocked window beyond it. On the right, there are two nine-pane sash windows. Above, there are two raking dormers with two-light casements. The central entrance leads to a passage and has an ogee scraper to the left. On either side of the entrance, there are late 20th-century single window shopfronts. The interior may contain timber framing.
