Description
46 and 48 Castlegate are two houses that have been converted into a shop. They date from the early 18th century and were altered in the mid-19th century, with restoration occurring around 1987. The buildings are constructed of brick, with a partly rendered front and left gable, and feature pantile and slate roofs. They have cogged eaves and include two gable stacks and one ridge stack. The structure is two storeys high and has a six-window range in an L-plan layout.
The front features three glazing bar sash windows that are unequally spaced, with the right one being reglazed in the mid-19th century, and three blank openings between them. To the left, there is a wooden shopfront from around 1840, which includes a cornice and a late 19th-century sunblind. The central entrance consists of a two-leaf half-glazed door with an overlight, flanked by single glazing bar windows. To the right, there is a panelled door and a mid-19th-century sash window, both with segmental heads.
