Description

No. 55 Castlegate is a house that has been converted into an antiques centre. It dates from the late 18th century and has some alterations from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It has an incomplete first floor band and a moulded eaves cornice, along with two gable stacks. The structure is three storeys high and has a three-window range of glazing bar sashes. Above these, there are three similar sashes with a central blank space, and all the windows have multi keystone lintels. The ground floor features a late 19th-century pilastered wooden shopfront with a simple cornice, a central recessed glazed door, and flanking two-light windows. To the right, there is an elliptical arched entry with a beaded four-panel door.
