Description

22 and 24 Castlegate are two houses that have been converted into offices. They were built in the late 18th century and early 19th century, with changes made to the windows in the mid-19th century and some alterations in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone detailing and have pantile roofs. They feature dentillated eaves, coped gables, and have two gable stacks and one ridge stack.

The first floor of number 24 has a decorative band, while number 22 has a similar band that is interrupted by lowered windows. The windows have segmental arches. The buildings are three stories high and have a total of seven windows, with plain sash windows arranged in a 4:3 pattern. The upper floors have similar window arrangements.

On the ground floor, to the left, there is an off-centre wooden doorcase with curved brackets supporting a hood, leading to a fielded six-panel door with an overlight. To the right of the door, there is a single sash window, and to the left, there are two sash windows. Further left, there is a round-headed opening with a recessed 20th-century door. To the right, there are three plain sash windows, with the central one located in a blocked doorway and the one to the right in a blocked elliptical arched carriage opening. The right gable features a single sash window on each floor.
