Description
The Crown and Mitre Hotel, now a public house named The Flying Circus, is a house dating from the early 19th century, originally listed as a hotel. It has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with yellow brick dressings to the ground floor, and has a slate roof. It features a chamfered plinth and a single gable stack. The three-storey front has a three-window range of plain sashes, with a wrought iron sign bracket to the left. Above these are two smaller plain sashes. A full-width fascia cornice with curved brackets runs along the front. A carriage entry with close-boarded doors is on the left, and to the right is a two-leaf panelled door with an overlight, flanked by single-pane windows. A 19th-century rear wing, two storeys high and ten windows wide, contains mainly plain sashes and cross casements. The building is included for group value.
