Description

The milestone at Tunstead Milton is a Grade II listed structure dating from around 1724. It is made of gritstone and stands approximately 2½ feet high with a shallow curved head. On the west side, it is inscribed with directions to Stockport (12 miles) and Manchester (19 miles). The east side features inscriptions directing to Chapel (1 mile), Tideswell (18 miles), Bakewell (15 miles), and Chesterfield. This milestone is part of the historic Manchester to Chapel-en-le-Frith Turnpike.
