Description
The Bradshaw Hall Gateway is a gateway built in 1620, located on the west side of Bradshaw Hall Lane in Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is constructed of ashlar and rock-faced gritstone and measures approximately 12 feet wide and 18 feet high. The arch from 1620 is set on 19th-century rock-faced piers that are about 6 feet high.
On the north side, the arch features a deeply chamfered semi-circular shape with a moulded drip moulding above it, and plain spandrels. Flanking the arch are pairs of fluted, shouldered pilasters with plain capitals that have incised fan decorations, with the outer pilasters stepped back. Above the arch, there is a moulded string course topped with a fluted and gabled frieze. The moulded cornice above has two bands of mouldings that step back, and it rises in the center over a plaque that displays a coat of arms and the inscription '1620 Francis Bradshawe'. The entire structure is topped with low stepped copings that have finials on the sides and at the top.
The south side mirrors the north side but features a different coat of arms on the plaque, which includes a deer above it.
