Description
Mill Cottage is a cottage that was part of a forge, dating from the early 17th century with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and features two brick gable end stacks. On the south elevation, there is a 19th-century casement window. To the east, there is a low four-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould, a former doorcase that has been filled with a 20th-century casement, and an inserted 19th-century door beyond. Above the new door, there is another 19th-century casement window. Over the early window, there is a similar four-light mullion window with a dripmould.
Inside, the cottage has a large bracketed stone fireplace and a bread-oven. There is a large central beam with roll moulding that broadens towards the west end.
