Description
Spire Hollins is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century, which has been restored and extended in the early 20th century. It is built of coursed gritstone rubble with large quoins on the 17th-century part and features gritstone dressings. The roof is slate with stone ridges, and there is a large central stone ridge stack along with smaller gable end stacks. The south gable has 19th-century moulded stone copings and kneelers topped by ball finials at the ridge and eaves.
The building has three storeys, with a two-storey addition from the 20th century. On the garden elevation, there are two bays, featuring 20th-century double glazed doors to the north. The south side includes a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould that has return stops, with the mullions and base being from the 20th century. Above this is a similar window. To the north, there is a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transome window with a dripmould above.
On the street elevation to the south, there is a 20th-century 5-light recessed and cavetto moulded mullion window with a large central semi-circular headed light, which is lower and divided above, and high transomes across the lights on either side, along with a dripmould that has return stops. To the east, there is a similar 3-light window. Above to the west, there is a 17th-century 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transome window with a dripmould above. To the east, there is a similar 19th-century window without a dripmould, and above to the west is a larger, similar window, possibly from the 19th century. Attached to the north are converted outbuildings from the 19th century.
