Description
Shaw Farmhouse and Barn is a late 18th-century building that combines a house and barn in one range. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and coursed rubble, featuring quoins and a rough stone plinth. The pitched stone slate roof has a stack with water tabling and stone brackets supporting the gutter. The building is two storeys high.
On the south elevation, the ground floor includes a doorway with a large millstone grit lintel and chamfered reveals, along with a 4-light stone mullioned window that has recessed mullions. The first floor features one 3-light stone mullioned window and one 2-light stone mullioned window. The west elevation has two 2-light stone mullioned windows, also with recessed mullions.
The barn's south elevation showcases a large central doorway with a segmental arched head and a pronounced keystone, surrounded by stone. There is also a former small doorway with a large lintel that is now partly blocked to form a window.
