Description
Tom Pits and Barn is a late 18th-century building that was formerly two houses and a barn in one range. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with large, roughly hewn plinth stones and some quoins. The building features a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables and moulded footstones on the west side.
The south elevation has a ground floor entrance with a large lintel, stone surrounds, and tie-stones, along with a single-storey lean-to extension. There are two 4-light stone mullioned windows on this floor, one of which is recessed. On the first floor, there are two 3-light stone mullioned windows (one recessed) and one single light window.
The east end has a small doorway with an elliptical arched head, featuring a pronounced keystone and quoins, as well as another small doorway with quoins. On the first floor, there are two 2-light stone mullioned windows.
On the north elevation, the east end, which was the former barn, has been rebuilt with a new window. The dwellings have two 2-light stone mullioned windows on each floor, with one recessed on the ground floor and one recessed on the first floor, along with a small lean-to extension.
