Description

This is a milepost located on Rochdale Road in Sowerby Bridge, dating from the early 19th century. It is a monolithic structure with a triangular section and a ramped top. The right side of the milepost indicates a distance of 'To Halifax 4 miles', while the left side shows 'To Rochdale 12 miles'. The turnpike road connecting Halifax to Rochdale was established in 1735, making it one of the earliest in the country.
