Description
This milepost, dating from the second half of the 19th century, is located on the north side of Wortley Road, opposite the junction with Old Wortley Road in Rotherham. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge and is constructed from cast iron, fixed onto a sandstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates the directions to Rotherham, Wortley, and Four Lane Ends. The left side shows a distance of 2 miles to Rotherham, while the right side indicates 12 and a quarter miles to Penistone and 3 and a half miles to Chapeltown.
