Description

The bridge across the Sheffield to Rotherham railway line, likely built in 1838 by engineer Frederick Swanwick for the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway, is constructed of red brick with sandstone bands and copings. It features a single span with a keyed segmental arch that springs from a moulded band. The arch is flanked by battered piers and abutment walls, which have square, projecting end piers. Above the arch, a continuous rounded band breaks forward at the piers. The parapet is adorned with moulded and chamfered copings. The railway line itself was opened on November 1st, 1838.
